Skin-tox Tonic

As a Skin Care Specialist, I speak to patients on a daily basis who want to completely reinvent their skin care routine (or perhaps begin one, it’s never too late!) Now, aside from a new variety of products, it’s important to start fresh by doing what I like to call, a “skin-tox.” Throughout the day, our bodies go through the ringer. Pollution, chemicals, toxins, unhealthy lifestyle choices, poor diet, etc. are all factors that impact our skin in a very, VERY, negative way; The Breakdown of collagen and elastin, pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, dullness, breakouts, over/under production of oil, just to name a few. A “Skin-Tox” is something everyone considering a serious lifestyle/skin change should try! I am somewhat compulsive with my daily morning regimen, so I certainly don’t expect everyone to do the same, so I have created a tasty detox tonic, that will not only aid in the removal of toxins that affect your skin, but also your body, negatively. Every single ingredient in this Tonic, has a purpose. It will help balance your PH, remove toxins, aid in neutralizing free radicals, improve circulation, provide anti inflammatory benefits, improve immunity, aid in digestion, etc. The two most important ingredients being Chlorella and Spirulina.Chlorella is a green algae, and is rich in chlorophyll, containing 3 to 5 percent chlorophyll, highest of the microalgae and significantly more than any leafy green vegetable. Due to high levels of chlorophyll, Chlorella helps cleanse the bowels and liver, cleansing the blood of toxins, and ensuring clear skin. Like spirulina, chlorella gently stimulates underactive bowels and increases waste while enhancing the lactobacillus flora necessary for bowel health. Chlorella may reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, and it also reduces cholesterol and triglycerides. Spirulina is packed full of nutrition, contains more beta carotene than carrots, and is especially rich in super digestible amino acids, which make up more than 60 percent of total mass. Spirulina contains an extremely rare and powerful antioxidant, Phycocyanin, that protects cells from damage. The other ingredients in this Tonic are Frozen Pineapple, lime juice, mint leaves, filtered water, and sparkling water. Now, I suggest consuming Spirulina and Chlorella on a daily basis, however, you do want to be super aware of how much you are consuming. You want to start slow, with a tsp of each a day, and make sure to consult your physician if you are on any medications etc. or have any health conditions. Here it is folks…

Skin-tox Tonic

Servings: 1 16 oz glass

1 tsp organic Chlorella powder (I use Organic Burst)

1 tsp organic Spirulina powder (I use Organic Burst)

1.5 cups Organic frozen pineapple

1 tbsp filtered water

1 cup ice cubes

1 cup sparkling water

1 lime (the juice of 1 lime)

5 mint leaves

  1. In high powered blender or food processor, add pineapple and water and pulse until completely smooth
  2. Slice the lime in half, remove the juice using a lime juicer, or your hands if you’re feeling wild, and set the lime juice aside
  3. In a cocktail shaker, add lime juice and mint leaves and carefully muddle
  4. Add pineapple puree and shake vigorously
  5. Add Chlorella and Spirulina and gently shake until completely mixed together and smooth
  6. Add ice cubes to glass
  7. Pour pineapple mixture over the ice cubes, topping off with Sparkling Water and lightly stir
  8. Garnish with a lime slice and mint leaf

I hope everyone enjoys!

Note: If you are new to the health game, and have not yet acquired a taste for certain things, feel free to add a tbsp of coconut sugar or any other  unrefined, raw sugar to help the medicine go down.

  1. Can’t wait to try this. I was wondering if you could give some sort of breakdown of what you eat in a day. I’m always looking for healthy idea. Thanks!

    1. I’ve always been apprehensive to freeze any algae for extended periods, as most manufacturers suggest it being kept in dry powder form, when mixed with liquid, consumed immediately. Not a bad idea though, but because of the Algeas weak cellular walls they suggest being super careful with it. That would be a nice idea for wheat grass powder and things like that. Love it!!
